The Arab Community Centre of Toronto conducted a nature walk for community members on October 21st. With the help of a member from the Humber Arboretum, who lead the tour around the neighbouring Broadacres Park, the families learned about native plants and how to recognize them. The group leader shared facts and details about different plants and reasons for the city’s preferences for certain trees. He also informed the group of different trees in the area, the fruit trees planted by the city and how to maintain your own in your backyard: tips such as watering regularly and making sure other plants are not shaded by big trees. The walk started and ended at the Applewood/The Shaver House with food provided at the end.
