Navigating
Our Rights (NOUR)

Empowering newcomer women to understand claim navigate their rights.

—ABOUT NOUR

Navigating Our Rights (NOUR) is a transformative project funded by The Law Foundation of Ontario that’s opening doors to justice, confidence, and empowerment for Arab and African newcomer women. A milestone project for ACCT, building on decades of experience delivering community-centered, multi-stakeholder settlement programs. Building on partnerships in the legal community support sector, NOUR combines culturally responsive legal education with hands-on support and community networks, creating new pathways for newcomer women to access legal resources confidently and effectively.

— WHAT NOUR DOES

Real Support for Real Barriers

NOUR tackles real barriers faced by newcomer women — language, trust, and access — through hands-on, community-based action.

One-on-one Legal Support
A dedicated Legal Support Worker helps women understand their rights and find the right legal help.

Multilingual Legal Resources
We’re adapting complex legal information on topics like family law, housing, employment etc. into plain-language guides and other languages (Arabic, etc.) to improve access.

Community Legal Workshops
Interactive sessions to raise awareness of legal rights and pathways to access services.

Legal Navigator Network
Trusted community members trained as Legal Navigators- to guide peers with accurate legal info, referrals, and emotional support, creating a sustainable network of community-led assistance.

— WHY IT MATTERS

Justice Should Be For Everyone

“Legal systems can be confusing, intimidating, and often inaccessible — especially for those navigating language, cultural, or financial barriers.”

Legal systems can be confusing, intimidating, and often inaccessible — especially for newcomer women navigating language, cultural, or financial barriers.

Newcomer women face layered barriers, including discrimination related to ethnic, racial, or cultural background.

Other barriers like language, financial constraints, and mistrust of formal systems often push women to rely on informal networks — which may provide inconsistent or incomplete guidance.

NOUR changes that. By blending cultural understanding with practical legal education, we’re building a bridge between communities and justice systems.

— POWERED BY PARTNERSHIP

Built on Collaboration

Each partner brings unique expertise — from legal training to outreach — creating a strong, coordinated network of support across the city.

It reflects our evolution from a traditional settlement agency to a multi-sector leader in empowerment, equity, and justice.
Together with our partners and community, we’re ensuring that every woman knows her rights — and feels supported to act on them.
