Position Summary
The Employment Services Officers role involves offering individualized and group training in employment and life skills, as well as related services, to help program clients become job-ready. The individual in this position will assist clients to identify their employment goals, develop a service plan & coach them through the job search process.
Responsibilities
- Provide culturally sensitive employment services including intake and assessment, one-to-one and group employment counseling and referrals
- Assists clients in exploring employment and career options, develops employment action plans
- Design, organize, facilitate and evaluate group sessions to engage vulnerable clients and develop their soft skills and employment securing skills through a variety of activities and workshops
- Schedule and facilitate workshops that will prepare clients to market themselves to employers and to find and maintain employment
- Build relationships with professionals in various industries and invite them as guest speakers to the program sessions
- Develop and enhance strong partnerships with referral sources across the city and engage in offsite outreach activities as needed
- Coordinate with the team to facilitate mentor-mentee engagements, ensuring effective communication and record-keeping of progress and outcomes for each clients.
- Manage clients attendance records, timesheets, and other support items, ensuring accurate documentation and timely submission for payment processing.
- Critique resumes/cover letters accurately based on current trends and guide clients in setting up LinkedIn profiles and/or developing resumes and social media presence for career networking
- Advocate on behalf of clients whenever necessary, including support in areas of skills training, social assistance and equitable access to services
- Meet monthly statistical requirements and maintain professional and effective information tracking systems on all activities performed
- Conduct needs assessments and career testing in individual and/or group settings
- Coordinates case management functions to ensure the client’s successful transition into the labour market.
- Supports clients to maintain positive employment relationships.
- Arrange job fairs and networking events
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- Holder of a Business Degree or diploma in Work and Career Counseling, Social Work or related field
- Minimum 2 years experience in job development, employer outreach, employment counseling and/or recruitment
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, additional language skills such as Arabic would be an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and self-management skills to work effectively with clients, co-workers and external agencies
- Knowledge of current local labour market trends, community services and resources across the GTA
- Demonstrated experience in case and file management
- Experience working with Internationally educated professionals is considered a strong asset
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
- Able to handle multiple priorities with ease and professionalism; able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- In-person and online facilitation experience and ability to navigate virtual facilitation platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Experience working in a Microsoft 365; familiarity with digital platforms and database management programs.
- Knowledge of/experience working with marginalized communities, including newcomers, and internationally trained professionals who may be experiencing employment barriers is an asset
- Participate in team meetings, case consultations, professional development, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across programs to ensure coordinated and holistic client service.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Previous experience with Employment Programs is an asset
- Possess and maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
Working Conditions
- This position maybe required occasionally to work evening or weekend based on program and community needs.
- The successful candidate may be required to work from multiple ACCT locations and community sites.
