Youth Arts Programs

Youth in our arts programs are mentored by culturally affiliated artists who work with youth to develop technical skills in various arts disciplines as well as soft leadership skills. Youth typically develop meaningful relationships with their artist mentors, who work with them over the course of many months.

Our vision for our arts programming is to facilitate an opportunity for newcomer youth that supports their well-being as they settle in Toronto, introduce new ways of thinking and understanding, connect them with the Toronto arts community and other like minded youth, provide an experience that motivates youth to continue engaging in art, and be an experience they remember.

Media Art for Newcomer Youth

Media Art for Newcomer Youth (MANY) is a free media art creation program we carry out in collaboration with Charles Street Video (CSV) that teaches youth photography and animation from culturally affiliated artists. During the program, youth build skills in these mediums and create a photography project or animation film for a public exhibit.

By working with a photography artist mentor, youth learn how to use a DSLR camera, how to take a photo, how to tell a story through photography, and how to prepare an artist statement.

By working with an animation artist, youth learn technical skills in the latest Adobe programs. Youth then learn how to apply these skills to tell a story through animation, as well as how to write an artist statement about their project.
