Mental Health and Well being
In response to ongoing community needs, we offer a safe, open space committed to helping newcomers who are experiencing mental health issues. All of our programs and services are founded on anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and culturally sensitive principles.
What exactly is mental health?
Mental health refers to your overall emotional and psychological wellbeing. Rather than conflate mental health issues with mental illness, we find it more helpful to think of mental health as a spectrum ranging from wellness to unwellness. When you feel well, you are capable of managing your daily life and responsibilities—on both good days and bad. But when you feel unwell, and are struggling to manage from day to day, you could use some extra support!
At ACCT, we provide the following programs and services free of charge
Assessment and referral: we assess your case, and if we don’t have the resources to help you, we refer you to an organization that does.
Case management: we help you identify your needs, and together we develop a wellbeing action plan to help you achieve your goals.
Counseling: we provide one-on-one counseling services catered to newcomers.
Group activities: with the help of our support groups and workshops, we offer a safe space in which you can learn strategies to stay positive and healthy.
Popular education: we work with numerous community partners to organize educational events aimed at reducing the stigma around mental health, and dispelling common misconceptions.
