The Arab Community Centre of Toronto (ACCT) is looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to join our board. Due to completion of term-limits for Directors, we have volunteer board positions available for individuals eager to share their skills and help make a difference in
our community.
About ACCT
The Arab Community Centre of Toronto (ACCT) is a registered charity and not for profit organization dedicated to empowering and supporting Arab and other newcomers to Canada.
Established in 1973, ACCT offers a wide range of culturally informed services, including settlement support, employment assistance, mental health programs, digital literacy training, and community-building initiatives. Our mission centers on enabling newcomers to thrive as engaged and self-sufficient members of Canadian society.
Board Responsibilities
Our board of directors plays a crucial role in:
- Providing strategic direction and oversight
- Ensuring proper governance and financial stewardship
- Developing and maintaining community partnerships
- Supporting fundraising and resource development initiatives
- Advocating for newcomers and social services
Skills and Qualifications We’re Looking For
We are seeking individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Settlement services and newcomer integration
- Social work and community development
- Legal expertise, particularly in immigration, employment and non
- profit law
- Fundraising and grant writing
- Marketing and communications
- Human resources management
- Strategic planning and organizational development
- Government relations and public policy.
We are committed to creating a diverse board that represents our community. We especially encourage applications from individuals with lived immigrant or refugee experiences, from women, and from residents of Toronto.
Commitment
- Board meetings are held 6 times a year
- Committee participation as required
- Attendance at agency events and functions
- Board members serve a two-year term, renewable twice only
