the Amal (Hope) Project brings newcomer and Canadian women together to deliver a glimmer of hope for a brighter future.
The Amal project helps clients practice their English language skills, learn more about the government services available to them, gain key life skills and form new long-lasting friendships in a fun and supportive environment.
Clients will be paired with established Canadian women who will guide them through key life skills and mentor them and their families as they settle into their new home. Weekly group sessions, with professional guest speakers, will be held that will teach them about key topics of interest to them, such as:
Parenting in Canada
Banking System and Credit scores
Finding a Job
Opening their own small business
Mental Health & Wellness
Nutrition, Grocery shopping and Reading food labels
Sponsoring family members
Canadian Lifestyle / habits / celebrations
Digital Literacy
English as a second language
Education and Health Systems
And much more…
Throughout the project duration, clients will be working side by side with other newcomers to do a community project of their own choosing such as:
Knitting hats or scarves for the homeless
Beautifying a school garden
Designing thank you cards for front line workers
Volunteering at a food bank or a soup kitchen
Designing rocks with messages of hope to place around their neighborhood
